Entertainment Tonight: Jump Photo Shoot
Entertainment Tonight: So, how much fun is it doing a photo shoot? Do you like doing it? Is it hard
work?
Jena Malone: Oh no it's so much fun. We goof around (laughs). It's loads of fun, photo shoots -- you
goof around, you have music blasting, you have the fan on, you have great people around you, you get to
dress up and be in cool clothes and have people fuss about you. It's really fun.
ET: What was the most fun about this one?
Jena: It's pretty much like a normal photo shoot. You walk in -- you have normal clothes on -- there are
painted backgrounds. Everyone was really great on this one.
ET: You got to play with the flowers.
Jena: Yeah, sunflowers -- very sticky.
ET: So you're gonna be in Jump magazine. Do you know that magazine at all?
Jena: Yeah, I do actually. Yeah I like that magazine.
ET: Are they putting you on the cover, or have they told you yet?
Jena: I don't know what they are using this for.
ET: You have a big movie coming out soon, which I've only seen the trailer of. When I talked with you
before, you were just leaving to do that. So when you got the call that you were going to do this movie
with Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts what did you think?
Jena: I was ecstatic. I remember reading the script and saying, "I really want to do this," and then it turned
out that it may not have been made, and that Susan or Julia hadn't signed on yet. It was falling apart and
then somehow, miraculously, it came together and I was able to do it. It was just a major blessing.
ET: Because they were two of your favorites before anyway, right?
Jena: Oh yes, definitely. Two of my favorites, yeah.
ET: Did you go in at all a little scared? Were you nervous about working with people who you admired so
much?
Jena: No, not really because they are really down-to-earth, wonderful women. From the first moment I
saw them, they were just like, "Hi Jena, how are you?" I said "Hi," and I just got over the nervousness
really quick.
ET: So, tell us a little bit about it. Susan's your mom in the movie, and then Julia comes in...
Jena: Yeah, Susan's my mom and Julia becomes kind of a surrogate mom, stepmom. It's just about how
everyone deals with changes in their life, and how it affects the children, and how one has to take them
into consideration.
ET: From what I've seen, Julia isn't too good at it at first.
Jena: Yeah, I don't think any child is in love with their stepmother the first time they are with them. So
there is that tension.
ET: Tell me about Susan and Julia. How did they make you feel comfortable?
Jena: I remember the first day of rehearsal, they just walked up and said "Hi," and were talking about
school with me, and New York, and the movie. They were just really down-to-earth people. You see them
and are like, "Yeah, that's Julia Roberts and that's Susan Sarandon." They are wonderful people. You see
right past the celebrity.
ET: And they both get to be your mom, which is kind of interesting.
Jena: Yeah, they both were really great moms. They are wonderful women in person.
ET: Well Susan, I know, is a super mom.
Jena: Yes, Susan is super mom.
ET: Is she like that on the set?
Jena: Yes, Susan was kind of like my surrogate mom, and Julia was kind of like my sister.
ET: Did you and Julia hang out together?
Jena: Yeah, and fool around on the set -- play tricks with each other. It was fun.
ET: I hear she gets kind of wacky sometimes.
Jena: She's fun, she makes everything really light and fun. But yet when something happens she can also
be really focused and very concentrated. She's great that way.
ET: Great, I'll see you when the movie comes out. Good luck with your photo shoot.
Jena: Thank you.
